Starr County Warrant Records Starr County Warrant Records

Start with the court named on your citation or notice. That clerk, not the sheriff, answers whether Starr County bench warrants name you. Bench warrants here can issue from a city municipal court, one of eight JP precincts, the County Court at Law, or a District Court. The issuing court controls a reset, recall, appearance, bond, or hardship hearing, so call its clerk with your case number in hand. Ask what the court calls its process and what it requires next. The Sheriff can cross-check paperwork for you. The county posts no public warrant list, though. There is no universal surrender schedule either.

How Bench Warrants Work in Starr County

A bench warrant is court process tied to a missed duty, such as a hearing, citation answer, order, bond condition, or judgment. Starr’s lower-court records are divided by venue. A missed Rio Grande City ticket remains a city-court question; a county traffic case stays with the JP precinct on its citation.

“Bench warrant” is often a plain-language label. The clerk may identify a capias, alias capias, capias pro fine, or another process. Ask for the exact court term before choosing a remedy.

Starr County Bench Warrants Start at the Named Precinct

Starr has eight JP courts with separate contacts. Precinct 1 is at 4192 U.S. Highway 83 in Rio Grande City; Precinct 2 is at 1705 N. Athens Street in Roma; Precinct 3 is at 530 Gabriela Street; Precinct 4 is in courthouse Room 403; Precinct 5 is near Santa Elena on FM 755; Precinct 6 is on FM 1430; Precinct 7 is on Salineno Road; and Precinct 8 is on Old Escobares Highway 83. The phone follows the precinct on the citation.

The official JP directory lists each office and constable. Its eight entries are separate channels, not one county search.

Bench Warrant Issuance in Starr County

A judge may issue process after a missed appearance, unpaid judgment, contempt, bond forfeiture, or failure to meet a court condition. The court’s clerk keeps the case record, while a constable, city officer, or sheriff may receive the process for service. Starr does not publish one public bench-warrant list or a shared update schedule.

Do not assume the process has reached the Sheriff or DPS. Call the issuer and ask whether a capias or warrant was issued, what office received it, and what action the judge requires.

Starr County Capias Pro Fine Warrants Are a Separate Process

A capias pro fine follows a judgment and fine or cost obligation. It is not the same as a new probable-cause arrest warrant, and it is not a label for every missed traffic date. Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 43.05 addresses a hardship and compliance hearing before this process issues when a judgment has not been satisfied as directed.

The court that entered the judgment controls the remedy. Ask whether payment in full, a court-approved plan, a hardship hearing, or another compliance method is available. Never apply La Grulla’s or Rio Grande City’s portal terms to a different JP or municipal court.

Read Texas Article 43.05 alongside the current order from the issuing court.

Starr County OCA Warrants Are Period Counts

OCA’s municipal report separates arrest warrants from capiases pro fine. In the January 2023 to August 2024 report, Roma recorded 645 capiases pro fine and Rio Grande City recorded 475. These are activity categories across that reporting period, not a current balance and not a count of people still subject to process.

The report can explain how city courts classify work. Only the clerk for the individual case can say whether a specific warrant remains active now.

Starr County Bench and Arrest Warrants Differ

A bench warrant responds to a missed duty in an existing case. An arrest warrant is a magistrate’s written order based on probable cause for an alleged offense. Both may result in custody, but the trigger, court file, and remedy differ. For the Chapter 15 process and local District Court route, see the Starr County arrest warrant lookup.

Starr County Rio Grande City Payment Does Not Remove Warrants

The city’s official Tyler portal searches citation information, but its notice says: “Payment of citations will NOT remove Warrants. You MUST report to Municipal Court.” That instruction is specific to Rio Grande City. If a missed city setting produced process, call the municipal court at 956-487-8889 and ask whether a report, payment, appearance, or judge action remains.

Do not treat an online balance as a recall order. The court controls the docket and can say what record will confirm the warrant is withdrawn.

Rio Grande City’s official portal displays the warning before payment.

Clearing a Bench Warrant in Starr County

Call the issuing court before traveling or paying. Starr’s official county pages do not publish a universal walk-in docket, surrender hour, local recall fee, bond schedule, or motion form. The clerk can explain procedure, while an attorney can advise on a motion or arranged appearance.

  1. Confirm the exact process name, case number, and court that issued it.
  2. Ask whether counsel can arrange a walk-through or file a motion to recall or quash.
  3. Confirm whether a personal appearance, bond, payment, reset, or hardship hearing is required and where to report.
  4. Get the recall order or receipt, the next setting, and instructions for updating the Sheriff or DPS.

Caution: A recalled bench warrant may leave the underlying case open; keep the court’s written order and attend the new setting.

Starr County Bench Warrant Recall Needs Proof

After a recall, ask whether the issuing court has notified the constable, Sheriff, or city officer who received the process. A court entry and an agency’s service record may update at different times. Keep the file-stamped order, payment receipt, new bond terms, and next-date notice.

DPS may also need a court report when an FTA or failure-to-pay status affected renewal. DPS describes an update window of up to seven business days after closure is reported. That update is separate from the court’s recall and does not end the underlying case.

Starr County Courts That Issue Bench Warrants

For a city citation, contact the municipal court named on the ticket. For a JP citation, the precinct number decides the first call. District Court matters go to the 229th or 381st District Court through the District Clerk in Room 304. County Court at Law cases may route to the District Clerk when concurrent with District Court, or the County Clerk for other matters.

The Sheriff at 956-487-5571 can cross-check service or help identify the agency, but it does not control court recall. Use the Starr County warrant check routes to locate the right file and office.
